Design and production of an intelligent Power Consumption Meter “The WATTMETER” for electrical local and remote sub-metering and power management applications.

It measures the power consumption and stores, in local memory, the consumption total for each phase independently. It displays the total consumption for all three phases on its LCD screen continuously but it can also display the different parameters, in memory, using the button on its front. The unit contains a rechargeable battery to back-up the computer's local memory during power interruptions of up to two weeks.
Options, on the unit, are 32K memory and a real-time clock with battery back-up and a long distance communications link. The communications link uses 20 mA current loop and a pair of telephone wires to connect up to 16 units to one computer serial port. A communications expansion unit is also available which will connect 7 loops, of 16 units each, for a total of 112 units to one computer serial port. All the internal parameters on all the units, on the loop, and the data they collected can be read by the remote computer using the communications link. This allows for fast viewing and billing of transient customers in marinas and RV parks or the verification of the total instantaneous power consumed by large users of electricity in order not to exceed their maximum allowed so as not pay any penalties.
